Safety is on everyone’s mind these days. Whether it’s expressed out loud in a board meeting or
put in a suggestion box, or maybe not even mentioned at all. Keeping the members of your
team and your clients safe should be at the top of your to-do list.
So how do you create a safer environment? Start by using electronic card access systems. Get
rid of the ‘old school’ lock and key. It’s time to switch over to a cheaper and more efficient
system of allowing access into your facility.
At Suncoast ID Solutions, we have high quality access cards that you can customize to fit your
brand, check them out here. Then come back to this article to see why making the switch makes
sense and could gain you more clients.
Control the Keys to Your Kingdom
Giving your employees access cards allows you to have more control over who and when
certain locations of your facility can be accessed. In other words, everyone will have their own
coded access card which only allows them to enter the rooms you say they can.
And you don’t have to have a key cut for each individual employee to enter each room. Say
‘bye-bye janitor style key rings’…
It’s that easy. Each access card can be programmed to fit each employee’s access status. For
example, John your part-time employee can access the hardware closet and break lounge, but
cannot access the manager’s office. While Jessie can access all 3 with one card.
You can also add time restrictions on to your employees’ access cards so that during certain
hours, some or all employees can’t access your facility. So when you’re closed no one has
access to get in. Except members of your staff who you’ve allowed after-hours access. You can
even completely lock down your facility if you need to.
If you have an employee that resigns or you have to unfortunately let go, you can immediately
restrict their access and/or turn off their cards so that they no longer have access to your facility.
No more waiting and wondering if they are going to return your keys and then having to change
the looks because they didn’t.
It’s Like Having Eyes in the Back of Your Head
Being able to control who and when someone can enter gives you complete control. No longer
will you need to worry when someone has lost their key and then having to replace all of your
locks. No more fretting if employees are letting someone else use their key for entry into your
Which brings me to the next perk of using electronic access cards. Monitoring. Now you can rest
easier knowing that each time an access card is swiped or scanned it is being logged into a
database. And if someone doesn’t have access you can see when an attempt to access that
location was made.
You can access this database if ever you need to know when someone entered a certain room.
This helps reduce internal theft as well as ensuring that someone won’t be letting their friends in
with their card because there is no longer secrecy of whose key might have been used.
Give More Access – Gain More Clients
Having access cards can allow your clients more freedom when it comes to time in your facility.
By setting access and time restrictions you can make your work out facility or pool area 24-hr.
Now you can gain clients that can’t make it before you close at 10pm. And your clients or
residents have freedom to work out when their schedule allows. Do you think you could gain a
few more client if you had more flexible hours?
For an added measure of security you can add pictures to the front of your access cards for a
quick verification of identity. An example would be school badges for students and/or faculty.
Even the faculty at daycares could gain from adding this one little step in security as an added
benefit of having parents choose them as their child care provider.
Boost Confidence in Your Employees
Having access cards is a proactive way for you to show your employees that you care about
their safety. Here are a few other tips on increasing the security and overall mindset of your
employees and/or clients:
- Increase the lighting in your parking lots and alleyways surrounding your facility
- Place security cameras at your entrances/exits as well as any ‘high-risk’ areas (i.e. safe, stockroom, registers, etc)
- Provide training to employees for situations in which security might be compromised and emergency evacuation procedures
